At the back end of last year, Clive’s Gardening Services was proud to take on the ongoing maintenance of another prestige property following a recent Barn conversion renovation. While the interior and landscaping had been beautifully completed, the outdoor spaces had received very little garden maintenance since the new owners moved in.

Our brief was clear: restore structure, secure planting, and bring the entire garden back to a high-end, show-home standard while protecting the investment made during the renovation.

Front Garden Restoration & Precision Topiary Work

We began with the front garden, where attention to detail is key for kerb appeal and first impressions.

All box balls and standard box ball trees were carefully trimmed and reshaped, restoring clean lines and symmetry throughout the space.

The front boundary hedge, a Portuguese laurel, required precise cutting. The task was to level the top line evenly around the entire hedge, creating a sharp, uniform finish that frames the property perfectly.

Securing Pleached Trees In A Windy Location

Next, we addressed an important structural issue. The pleached trees, planted during the renovation, were set in approximately six inches of soil. Due to their exposed, windy position, the trees had begun to rock, causing movement in the root systems.

Each pleached tree was properly staked and secured to stabilise the roots, prevent further movement, and encourage healthy establishment going forward.

Back Garden Maintenance & Plant Care

With the front garden complete, attention turned to the back garden.

The bamboo hedge was secured to prevent it from blowing and moving in high winds. 

Climbers were carefully tied in and trained onto ornate metal structures, allowing them to grow neatly while maintaining a refined appearance.

The sunken lounge area was cleared of leaves and debris, restoring it as a clean and inviting outdoor living space.

Border Clearance, Weeding & Topiary Reshaping

We then worked methodically through all garden borders, carrying out thorough weeding, cutting back overgrown plants, and restoring shape across the planting scheme.

Several Buxus and Japanese Holly topiary balls required significant reshaping, with up to eight inches of growth removed in some cases to bring them back to crisp, defined forms.

Winter Lawn Treatment

To support lawn health through the colder months, a nutrient-rich winter lawn treatment was applied. This treatment helps strengthen roots, maintain colour, and prepare the lawn for strong, healthy growth in spring.

Jet Washing & Hard Landscaping Cleaning

The final stage of the project focused on restoring the hard landscaping.

All porcelain patio areas and composite decking was jet washed, along with porcelain wall capping and the cobbled driveway. This deep clean removed dirt, algae, and weather staining, leaving all surfaces looking fresh, clean, and as good as new.
