Jobs for the Garden in September

Reflecting on August

August 2024 was like no other! Clive found himself wearing waterproofs at least one day each week due to torrential rain. In all his years, he’s never experienced such weather in August—could this be a sign of the future with climate change? Whatever the case, we remain committed to keeping your garden in top shape, rain or shine.

Preparing Your Garden for Winter

As September begins, it’s time to start preparing your garden for the winter months ahead. Here are some essential tasks to consider for your property:

1. Pruning and Cutting Back Borders:

September is the ideal time to prune and cut back borders. This helps promote healthy growth in the spring and keeps your garden looking neat through the winter.

2. Jet Washing Paths, Patios, and Driveways:

To prevent any dangerous slippages during the wet autumn months, consider jet washing your paths, patios, and driveways. It’s a quick way to keep these areas safe and clean.

3. Hedge Cutting:

Now that all young birds have left their nests, it’s a great time to trim back hedges. This will keep your boundaries looking smart and well-maintained.

4. Fencing:

Before the autumn and winter winds arrive, it’s essential to check your fences. Do they need repairing, replacing, or perhaps a coat of wood preservative? Taking care of your fences now can prevent bigger costs later.

5. Lawn Care:

Book your last lawn treatment of the season, or if your lawn needs it, schedule scarification or aeration. These treatments help keep your lawn healthy and resilient through the winter.

6. Spring Bulb Planting:

For a burst of color next spring, now is the time to plant tulips, daffodils, and other bulbs. Contact Clive’s Gardening Services to ensure you have a stunning display from March through June.
